A kitchen is considered to be the center of the house. This is the place, where the whole family gathers, cooks and communicates. That's why the kitchen must be maximally comfortable, beginning with the color combination and finishing the furniture. This all affects the whole atmosphere and mood. Starting renovation of the kitchen you shall thoroughly decide all details in complex, how exactly it shall look.
Concerning the choice of the materials for the walls' finishing, you should take into account the hardness of the coating, and its resistance to mechanical load, moisture and washing, as the kitchen is the place, where people constantly cook and clean up.
The most win-win material among other finishing materials for this purpose is decorative plaster.
Decorative coating with the effect of natural stone and concrete
Decorative coating with quartz sand and pearl
Decorative coating with a velour effect
Decorative coating with the effect of marble
Decorative plaster has a list of substantive advantages:
Consuming all the advantages, wallpapers are definitely worse than decorative coatings. The wallpapers can peel off under the moisture effect and high temperatures make them less attractive, the wallpapers are getting yellow and the colors fade.
The decorative coatings also win in comparison with tiles and paints. Seams of the tile surface make the pattern fragment-like and paints limit variations for decor as they create a matt or semi-matt effect.
Various effects, possible with decorative plasters Maxima-decor, can make you doubt what is exactly suitable for the kitchen. Let's have a look at each option.
Textured plaster
There are three decorative products in Maxima-decor, which allow creating texture and hiding insignificant defects on the surface.
These plasters can imitate natural stones, concrete, wooden surfaces and leather. They obtain an advanced resistance to physical load and if you cover them with wax Cera as a finishing coat, they gain additional protection and taking care after the surface becomes easier.
You can wash textured plasters using domestic detergents and not be afraid they will lose an attractive look.
Nacre coatings
It is not difficult to guess, that nacre coatings must correspond to their names due to the nacre, contained in them. They are remarkable in their gloss and play of light. Nacre coatings create an imponderable surface, which can resemble cloth, sandy dunes, or rainy or marine sceneries. We refer to such coatings:
However, the nacre coatings are considered to be thin-layered coatings, not all of them create an ideal smooth surface. Some of the coatings create a rough surface, due to the quartz filler or a design.
Nacre coatings are quite resistant to moisture and need no additional protection, like finishing with a protective wax, because it spoils the picture's attractiveness and the play of light will disappear. Clean them very carefully with a wet sponge without detergents.
Venetian plaster
Venetian plaster allows imitating marble, the surface of a cut stone, cracks, veins and waves. It is characterized by a glossy effect. Maxima Decor offers one kind of Venetian plaster named Stucco Veneziano.
Stucco Veneziano is a tender coating and requires additional protection and gloss. We recommend using for this purpose a special wax - Cera Lavabile. When the wax is completely dry you can wap it with a wet napkin, cloth or sponge. Do not use brushes and hard sponges. For substantial contaminations use soaped water (light concentrated solution).
Venetian plaster is a sophisticated coating but not practical.
A backsplash is an accessible place for grease and various contaminations. This area demands cleaning, often because it is an integral part of a working surface. That is why no matter what coating you choose for the backsplash, it demands additional protection. We recommend you have a look at a two-component varnish because it blocks penetration of various contaminations into the surface of the wall.
We shall admit, that textured plasters are not suitable for the backsplash, because the process of cleaning grease and contaminations from their surface will is complicated. A more practical option is a coating with a smooth surface.
Decorative stone-like coating on the backsplash
A stone-like coating adds a natural look and diversity to the design. There is a great number of options to imitate stone, which can differ in color, texture and shades. You can choose the one, which is the best suitable to the style of your kitchen.
You can implement one of these options with Art Beton and Marmorino.
Concrete-like decorative plaster for the backsplash
For those, who like the minimalistic design of the backsplash, the best option is to choose a concrete-like decorative plaster. It suits Industrial, Loft and Scandinavian styles. This effect looks up-to-date, laconic and perfect.
To create a minimal pattern you may choose Art Beton and Marmorino.
When choosing the color for the kitchen you should consider the size of the room, lighting availability and personal preferences for each family member.
Discussing universal color decisions, you'd better choose neutral or natural colors.
White makes the premises visually bigger and lighter. It allows experiments with the design and color.
Grey is an ideal option for the kitchen in Scandinavian style, Minimalism and Loft. It combines with various materials: wood, metal, glass, mirror and clay. It allows creating contrasts and a modern look.
Natural tones of brown and beige fill the space of the kitchen with warmth and create a feeling of coziness.
And natural tones of green and blue fill the kitchen with energy and life. They are ideal for the kitchen in the marine style or eco-style.
Black is often considered to be dramatic, but when we talk about the kitchen, it is more about the modern look. It is often used in combination with light colors to create a contrast. Combinations of black with glittering elements like silver, gold, bronze or copper are very elegant.
