Not all decorative plasters are finished coats. A plaster can be vulnerable to scratches, wear and tear or chips and in purpose to protect it and to keep the original look of the surface a varnish or a wax for decorative plasters are used. They create smooth surfaces, which makes the process of cleaning from dirt, dust, oily spots and other contaminations and keeps the appearance of the plaster clean and attractive.
Protection with a varnish or a wax helps to prolong the exploitative period of plaster and lessens the variety its damage as a result of outer impact.
Coatings DUNA, GALAXY, OTTOCENTO and ARABESK Maxima-decor need no wax or varnish as they contain nacre in their content. Additional finishing coatings can change the appearance of the coating as a noticeable shining or playing effect of nacre will disappear.

Applying wax on decorative plasters allows adding extra decorative effects: gloss degree (glossy or matt), color or shade and other effects (polished look, nacre particles and others). Wax also improves exploitative features of decorative plasters: moisture resistance, water repellency, color fasting, washability and others.
The wax for decorative plasters can be solvent-based or water-based. In any case, waxes are multi-component products. The core components of the wax can be natural materials like plant waxes (Carnauba wax), animal waxes (lanolin, bee wax), earth waxes (mountain wax, ozocerite), and also semy-synthetic materials (paraffin wax, amide waxes) and synthetic materials (polyethylene and polypropylene waxes, acrylic emulsions).
The wax is manufactured as a viscous or liquid mass and is usually colorless.
Waxes Maxima-decor can be tinted with pigment pastes.
Hints for wax applying
Varnish for decorative plaster creates a hard and attractive surface, emphasizing texture and adding extra gloss. It is also resistant to moisture and bears cleaning with detergents.
Varnishes can be matt and glossy. Matt varnishes maximally emphasize relief and glossy ones create a water-repellent film on the surface.
Varnishes are usually transparent and colorless. But decorative plasters can be coated with semi-transparent tinted varnishes like lasures, wood-protective products or decorative enamels. You can add nacre and other pigment pastes to the varnish as well as to the wax and create additional effects. For the decorative effect of artificial cracks, they use craquelure varnishes. For maximal protection of plasters, you can use two-component varnishes.
Apply a varnish with a brush, a roller and a spraying gun.
