Chinese silk has become more and more popular for customers` choice. And very few know that this is the name of the effect, but not a coating.
Velvety and silky gloss on the walls always attracts attention and has been a trend. “Chinese silk” or "wet silk" as the other people name it, provides the interior not only more depth and chic but also impresses with its play of shades under the light. It combines perfectly with any style of interior, providing the interior its individual style.
"Chinese silk" looks like the walls are draped with an expensive Chinese silk, which is tender, iridescent with deep color and slightly nacreous. This effect can be achieved through various application techniques. All of them create absolutely smooth and seamless surface, which resembles natural silk. Chinese silk has no joints or irregularities, which makes the wall bold and seamless. Due to its special texture, the wall color is not static; it shifts shades depending on the angle of light falling. In daylight, you can see soft nacre glitter and in the evening, under the warm light of lamps, the walls show deep, saturated tones.
The coating with a Chinese silk effect looks not just fine but is also pleasant to touch. It is matt, smooth with a slight feeling of silky surface, which adds the interior more warmth.
You can achieve the effect of Chinese silk with decorative plaster Ottocento TM Maxima. It precisely allows reaching that very play of light, which creates the illusion of the expensive silky cloth on the walls.
Ottocento is a tender material with nacre glitter, which is pleasant to touch and resembles atlas, silk or velvet. The product is vapor permeable, easy to care for and it has a consumption of only 0,15 – 0,2 kg/m² depending on the application technique. It dries in 24 hours and achieves its full hardness within 28 hours. It can be tinted manually with pigment Farbex Color or with a tinting machine. The peculiarity of Ottocento is its ability to change the shades depending on the angle of light falling. This effect is revealed in roomy premises the best. The premises we recommend are halls, living rooms, bedrooms, corridors, especially with good natural or artificial lighting.
You can apply decorative coating Ottocento with a plastic trowel, a spatula or a stainless steel trowel. Every technique allows creating a unique visual effect:
The products is applied on the wall with chaotic movements in the same direction. The tool is a spatula-trowel for decorative coatings.
The product is applied with a plastic trowel by drawing eight. The size of the eights can be corrected from big to smaller, depending on the result you desire.
This technique creates the effect of a free and irregular pattern. The product is applied with a plastic trowel or a spatula-trowel in chaotic directions.
The choice of the application technique depends on the result you desire and how brave you are to experiment. Each technique reveals Ottocento in its own way, but eventually it resembles Chinese (wet) silk.
The effect of Chinese silk visually enlarges the space due to its reflective traits. A smooth, sparkling surface creates a feeling of volume and depth, making the premise visually bigger and lighter (if using light colors).
No matter what the interior style is: sophisticated classics, minimalistic modern, Scandinavian calmness or even Loft, the Chinese silk effect adds a special charm. It doesn’t overweigh the space but, vice versa, emphasizes its character and adds a little bit of luxury. The textures, which resemble velvet or wet silk, look unmoved and elegant, creating feelings of warmth and coziness.
However, Chinese silk is a visual effect but it psychologically makes the feeling that the surface is nice to touch. A visually smooth and tender surface, with a silky play of color, makes the surface more comfortable and attractive.
